Every action in society has a reaction—and it is this reaction that brings about change. In Indian society, the social prestige of having a son played a significant role. When the importance of a daughter’s birth diminished, families, after having two or three daughters, were driven toward committing the crime of female foeticide. From here began the marginalization of women—confined to household chores like stoking the stove and cooking—deprived of opportunities to grow, study, and progress. Their education came to a halt, and women began to fall behind. Lack of access to full education was the main reason.

However, with time came education. When foreign cultural influences spread in India, perspectives began to shift. People became more educated, and so did women. Social attitudes and mindsets changed; society opened new pathways for women and gave them opportunities to advance. Today, women walk shoulder to shoulder with men, aspiring to do everything that traditionally only men dared to undertake.Many women now choose to dress like men—wearing jeans, t-shirts, and even cutting their hair short—to adopt a masculine image. If that was just an external change, it might have been okay. But increasingly, women are attempting to change mentally as well, identifying as mentally male and rejecting their innate feminine identity. Nature gave men and women distinct bodies, minds, and missions, with specific duties. To fulfill those duties, one must accept their physical, mental, and emotional identity—but today, many women seem to be distancing themselves from that responsibility.

Foreign culture has infiltrated lifestyles through the internet and mobile—learning foreign behaviors and integrating them into everyday routines. Women, in particular, play a more prominent role in adopting these changes in dress, language, and conduct. They are aware that in many Western societies divorce is common, leading some women to choose new partners or single life. Influenced by this, the meaning of relationships in India is also eroding. Though women are becoming educated, they lack a proper framework to prove themselves. They often become part of a rat race, striving to surpass men in society. As a result, women now frequently assert dominance over men, even when they are wrong. This shift is also creating rifts in relationships. Relationships now seem like experiments: if both agree, it continues; if their thinking diverges, it reaches the verge of dissolution. Emotional hollowness lingers, and individuals move on.

Earlier, such behavior was more common in men, where they would discard women once passion fades. Now, women are equally participating in abandoning relationships. In many cases, women are more active in seeking separation. But this is not solely the women's responsibility. If we examine closely, men are largely responsible as well. Historically, men restricted women from education; when access was finally granted, the quality was often lacking in rural areas. Women migrated to towns and cities, found freedom, and absorbed new norms. As they moved to pursue jobs in big cities, they adopted urban lifestyles and their speech, which was once gentle, became bold and assertive. They mix freely with men and walk together as equals. Consequently, the perceived necessity of marriage has declined. Many women now think: if we live together, is marriage needed? Men too agree—and living-in relationships begin. This, in turn, erects barriers within families. Men find themselves between a rock and a hard place. Even when marriage occurs, it is often a love marriage based on mutual consent. Yet problems persist. Now India is as susceptible to divorce trends as the West. A small quarrel can escalate into divorce. Most laws favor the woman. A new trend has emerged: some women allegedly make false accusations or manipulate proceedings to extract larger alimony during divorce.

These cases often end up in court. The man must pay compensation; if found guilty, he may receive a sentence. With few avenues left, the man and his family suffer. Ultimately, the woman too faces consequences similar to what is seen in the West: frequent shifts of home become her fate. The woman who once received divine reverence in India now may lose even her basic happiness.
