Darbhanga | In Singhwara area of Darbhanga, the bride refused to marry just before the Jai Mala ceremony. The dispute arose when the bride’s family discovered that groom Surendra Kumar was already married, while it was the bride’s first marriage.

The groom and his relatives were temporarily held by villagers. Surendra Kumar, son of Mangal Ram from Moro, had arrived with his wedding procession and all pre-wedding rituals, including Dwar Pooja, were completed. When the truth emerged during the Jai Mala, the bride refused to go ahead with the marriage. The bride’s family stated that a significant amount was spent on the venue, lights, sound, and food, and the wedding guests were allowed to leave only after compensation was arranged. A village panchayat was held, and the issue was settled amicably between the two families. Singhwara police station in-charge Vasant Kumar confirmed that no formal complaint was filed, and the matter was resolved privately between the families.
