Imagine being forced to live and work inside a factory with no freedom to leave, constantly under threat, and facing a dangerous dog if you try to escape. A shocking case from Uttar Pradesh has raised serious concerns about modern-day bonded labor and human rights violations.
The incident came to light in Muzaffarnagar, where a joint operation by police and administrative officials uncovered an alleged bonded labor racket at a manufacturing factory. During the raid, authorities rescued 12 workers who were reportedly being held captive and forced to work for nearly two years.
According to investigators, the workers were not allowed to leave the factory premises and were allegedly subjected to forced labor. In a disturbing revelation, workers claimed that a dangerous Rottweiler dog was kept on the premises to prevent escape attempts and intimidate them.
The rescued laborers also alleged that they were regularly beaten and mentally harassed, turning their workplace into what they described as a prison-like environment rather than a place of employment.
The case has sparked outrage and raised a troubling question: Are some workers still being treated as slaves rather than employees in the modern era?
Police have launched a detailed investigation, and authorities say strict legal action will be taken against those found responsible. The probe is ongoing.
