A remarkable story has emerged from Biaora in Rajgarh district, Madhya Pradesh, where 20-year-old BSc student Bittu ‘Tabahi’ aka Surendra Choudhary took the initiative to clean the polluted Ajnar River.

Bittu Took Up the Work Expected from the Government and Leaders

Bittu and his two friends did not know how to swim, yet they entered the dirty river and began removing plastic, पूजा सामग्री and other waste. Despite being mocked and criticized, they continued their mission.

The three friends have reportedly spent around ₹30,000 from their own pocket on gloves, shoes, nets and cleaning equipment. Even after suffering skin infections and other difficulties, they refused to stop.

Their cleaning videos went viral on social media, bringing attention to their work across the country. Their efforts were also appreciated by industrialist Anand Mahindra.

The story eventually reached Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, who invited Bittu to Bhopal. At the CM House, the Chief Minister praised his efforts, patted him on the back, placed a ‘Jai Shri Mahakal’ scarf around him and honoured him with a certificate of appreciation.

Bittu's message is simple but powerful—the government can work for river conservation, but citizens must also take responsibility and stop polluting rivers.

A 20-year-old student has shown that change does not always begin with a position or power. Sometimes, it begins with one person deciding to step into the dirt and do the work.
